FAQ

Will counseling help me?

Counseling (or therapy) has many benefits in someone’s life no matter what they are going through. I know first-hand how scary it can be to think about therapy, let alone see a therapist regularly, so I welcome you to reflect on what brought you to my page in the first place and continue reading.

Counseling is all about having an additional support system (me) who helps you learn more about yourself. This includes your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and how you have used them and how you may want to start using them to live a more manageable life. We will discover your skills and maybe implement new ones to help you feel more at peace with how you live your day to day. Sometimes, in order to do this we will also work through your past history and identify patterns or monumental moments that have shaped you. Nevertheless, I got you.

Counseling can also be for those who just want some “mental health maintenance” and like to have someone to check in with about how they are still rocking it at life and need a little help processing to continue on.

What is the first session like?

The first session is usually the hardest to get to, especially if you have never been to therapy, simply because of some many unknowns that come with therapy. I promise to make it as welcoming as I can!

The first session is typically longer than any other session as it is 75 minutes. During this time we can discuss what brought you to therapy, your background, and go over some formalities. Through all this I just want to get to know you, as you are the expert of your life, and I am just there to support you in your healing journey. Together we will discuss a treatment plan that feels the best for your needs (fyi: the treatment plan is always meant to suit your needs which may change as we work together)

Do you take insurance or have reduced rates?

I do accept insurance (Aetna, Cigna).

Please note that in order to use insurance a diagnosis is needed. Also, you may have to meet a deductible depending on your plan. I do offer private pay option if that is more in line with your needs. If you have questions about costs with insurance, we can also discuss this in our free 15 minute consultation.
